Category: Pointstreak K-ForCE Pocket PC
Subject:
K-ForCE Questions
Description:
How do you score a pop-up? The help text says that it assumed balls hit
to the outfield are flyballs so the software automatically places the
"F" in front of the position number, and balls hit to the infield are grounders.

How do you show ball was hit in the gap?

How do you score:
Bunt hits?
Sacrifice bunts?
Sacrifice flys?
Foul-outs?
Dropped 3rd strike safe.

Solution:

>>How do you score a pop-up? The help text says that it assumed balls
>>hit to the outfield are flyballs so the software automatically places
>>the “F” in front of the position number, and balls hit to the infield are grounders.
When you tap on the position number in the field, K-ForCE makes an assumption about what you intend. It assumes that if the batter has not yet reached base, then you intend to score an out. Outfielder putouts usually come in the form of a fly out. Infielder putouts usually come from ground ball out.

To score an out '9-3', tap the right fielder position (which scores an out with 'F9' selected), tap the right fielder again (which replaces the selection with '9'), then tap first base position (which adds the '3'), tap a blank area to accept (the '-' is automatically added).

To score an 'F5', tap the 'F' menu (which scores an out with 'F' and the cursor after the 'F'), then select 3rd base position (which adds the '5'), then tap a blank area to accept.

>>How do you show ball was hit in the gap?
Hit locations can be scored in one of two ways:
1>Drap the 'G', 'L' or 'F' (located at the right of the scoring field)
1>and
draw it to the field. If you drag to an invalid place, the hit location will be removed to the atbat. You can score a hit location in fould territory, however.
2>Tap and Hold on the field and a Hit Location popup menu will appear.
2>From
here you can select the hit type, or clear the hit location. NOTE: this doesn't work if the hit location is directly at a fielder, since tap and hold is the gesture that brings up the player information window.

>>How do you score:
>>Bunt hits?
Bunt for a base hit is just a single (1B). I usually enter the fielder who first touched the ball when I enter a single (1B 5). This extra information has no bearing on the stats. So you can enter what you want following the '1B' to help notate the game. I use the following convention:
'1B 5' - full swing hit to the 3rd baseman '1B 5B' - Bunt '1B 5S' - Slap '1B 5L' - Line drive '1B 5L!' - Hard line drive

You can add 'D' fro 'Drag Bunt', or whatever you want. Also, recording the hit location helps. In the future we may formalize the conventions to allow statistical analysis on this extra information.

>> Sacrifice bunts?
This would be a putout 'SA 5-3' or 'SH 5-3'. I don't like 'SB 5-3' because 'SB' means 'Stolen Base'. It doesn't make sense in the context of an out - but still, it's better to avoid dual meaning abbreviations. This is available in the 'Sac' menu. You can even record a 'SAC E5' to indicate that the batter layed down the bunt, but the 3rd baseman committed an error.
It can't go as a hit. It shouldn't count as 'on by error' since it was a sac attempt. So this is a special case where No AtBat is charged to the batter.

>> Sacrifice flys?
Same 'Sac' menu - 'SF8'

>> Foul-outs?
Foul outs are just fly outs. You can enter the hit location in foul territory. You can also notate foul territory after the 'F9' by recording
'F9 F' or 'F9f'. No stats are currently collected on outs made in foul territory. Also, you can do the same for 'SF9f' to indicate a Sac Fly in foul territory. Again, we may formalize this convention in the future; but for how, it's up to the user.

>> Dropped 3rd strike safe.
The 'K' menu offers 4 possibilities for Dropped 3rd strike safe:
KS WP - safe on wild pitch
KS PB - safe of pass ball
KS FC -safe on fielder's choice (this can happen with a runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs: the fielder chooses not to make the throw for fear of the lead runner advancing)
